Description
This 8 hour course provides an overview of state-of-the-art technology for fall protection and current OSHA requirements specific to the climbing and construction of telecommunication, radio transmission and metrological towers and is designed to provide training for persons designated as a "competent person" for tower climbing fall protection purposes in accordance with OSHA’s 29 CFR 1926, Safety Standards for the Construction Industry. Topics covered include the principles of fall protection specific to tower climbing, the components of tower climbing fall protection systems, the limitations of tower climbing fall arrest equipment, determination of safe paths for climbing, and OSHA policies regarding fall protection and tower climbing. Course features a field exercise demonstrating tower climbing fall protection equipment and simulated tower climbs. This course is designed to train employees for designation as "competent persons" for the purpose of fall arrest system component inspection and to act as a fall protection system trainer in tower climbing and erection industries.

Outline
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
• Identify various types of tower climbing fall protection and their
components
• Recognize fall hazards and identify abatement methods for
tower-related fall hazards
• Define the proper use of tower climbing fall protection equipment
and personal tower fall arrest systems
• Select proper standards for citation purposes
• Inspect tower climbing-related fall protection equipment as a
competent person level of proficiency
