This course designed for private sector personnel presents detailed information on how the provisions of the OSH Act may be implemented in the workplace. Rights and responsibilities under the OSH Act, the appeals process, and recordkeeping are covered. The course also includes an introduction to OSHA’s general industry standards and an overview of the requirements of the more frequently referenced standards such as Introduction to OSHA, OSHA and Your Company, The OSH Act, General Duty Clause 5 (a) (1), Inspections, Citations and Penalties CFR Part 1903, Subpart D: Walking and Working Surfaces, Subpart E: Means of Egress and Evacuation Plans, Subpart L: Fire Protection-Emergency Action Fire Teams, Subpart Z: 1910.1200, Hazard Communication, Subpart O: Machine Guarding, Material Handling and Storage, Subpart H: Hazardous Materials, Asbestos & Lead, Manual Material Handling, Hazard Recognition, Accident Prevention, Powered Industrial Trucks, Forklifts, Powered Platforms and Overhead Cranes. The 10 hour US Department of Labor OSHA card is issued upon successful completion.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

• Locate OSHA safety and health standards, policies, and procedures
• Describe the use of OSHA standards and regulations to supplement
   an on-going safety and health program
• Identify common violations of OSHA standards such as lockout/tagout,    walking and working surfaces, hazardous materials, and welding
• Describe how to conduct internal training on OSHA regulations and    recordkeeping

• Pretest and review, posttest and review, and overview of the training
   outreach program (1 hour)
• Overview of the OSH Act and 29 CFR 1903 (.5 hour)
• Citations and proposed penalties (.5 hour)
• Means of egress and fire protection (.5 hour)
• Personal protective equipment (1 hour)
• Electrical safety standards and work practices (1 hour)
