Fall Protection Equipment Repair Services
at Essential Safety Services

Essential Safety Services established their repair center for fall protection device repair in January of 2000. We are one of the largest DBI/Sala repair centers in the United States and are factory-authorized to work on self-retracting lifelines (SRLs) with and without emergency retrieval capabilities, temporary horizontal lifelines (EZ Line), Rolgliss (rapid egress/escape unit) and tripods. We are factory-authorized by Miller fall protection to work on self-retracting lifelines with and without emergency retrieval capabilities and all Guardian Fall Protection self-retracting lifelines. We also provide service and repair for 3M/Safewaze and MSA Fall Protection SRLs. Essential Safety Services operates in-house examination and repair facilities for all self-retracting lifelines that require annual recertification and for those that have been subject to an impact load or have failed a competent person inspection for the purpose of continued serviceability and use (*Not all devices are recertifiable - check the documentation that came with your device or contact us if uncertain).

When the units are received at our repair center, they are given a pre-service inspection to help determine the level of service needed. This is a quick look-over to ensure the unit retracts locks and functions properly. The condition of the cable the snap hook and the external housing are also determined at this level. The units are opened and inspected. The cable is replaced if needed and the hook is rebuilt or replaced depending on manufacturer requirements. The brake is inspected for damage and components showing wear are replaced. The power springs are inspected and replaced if needed. The inside of the unit is cleaned and internal housings and other parts that could not be inspected in the pre-service are inspected and replaced if needed. The unit is then
reassembled and another inspection is done at this point, this is the final inspection all of the cable is pulled out to make sure power springs function properly the units the cable is pulled sharply to ensure the unit locksthis process is done multiple times while the cable is being pulled out and allowed to retract back in. If the unit has emergency retrieval capabilities this function is inspected. Once the unit has passed this inspection the month and year are placed on the service label and the unit is returned to you functioning as it did the day you purchased it.

What you want is not to have fall protection equipment fixed, but rather to have it restored to original factory specifications and tolerances using OEM parts and processes. We only use factory parts that are lot-controlled and provided by the original equipment manufacturer. Essential Safety Services' factory-trained and authorized technicians strictly follow written guidelines from the manufacturer to restore your SRL to original factory specifications.

In order to determine if service is necessary, you should before every use inspect the housing of your self-retracting lifeline for loose fasteners and bent, cracked, distorted, worn, malfunctioning, or damaged parts. Test the lifeline retraction and tension by pulling out several feet of the lifeline and allowing it to retract back into the unit. Always maintain a light tension on the lifeline as it retracts. The lifeline should pull out freely and retract all the way back into the unit. Inspect the impact indicator and emergency lifeline indicator for deployment. Look for and visible corrosion. Do not use the unit if the lifeline if any deficiencies are noted and contact Essential Safety Services for guidance.
